Player Registration

Registration for the 2024-2025 HRBBA Season is now CLOSED

KEY INFORMATION FOR 2024-2025

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES

MYAS (the governing body for youth sports) has eligibility guidelines that were updated recently for participation in traveling basketball. School attendance is now the primary factor when determining which association an athlete is eligible to play.

Your athlete is eligible to play for HRBBA if they meet at least one of these requirements:

  • They attend a school (public, private or charter) in the Hopkins School District boundary (e.g., Gatewood, Meadowbrook, Good Shepherd, Eagle Ridge Academy, etc.) or the International Spanish Language Academy.*
  • They attend a private school (e.g., Benilde) or charter school that is outside of the Hopkins boundary, and their home address on file with the school is within the Hopkins School District boundary.
  • They attend a home or online school and their home address on file with the school is within the Hopkins School District boundary.

If your player does not meet the eligibility requirements above, please contact Andrew Wright at Registration@HRBBAbasketball.net to discuss the MYAS Player Transfer and Residency Exception process, as detailed on the MYAS website. Please begin this process now to receive MYAS approval in time for team selection.

Additional eligibility notes:

  • HRBBA will not accept player transfers, residency waivers or "no opportunity" for players below 3rd grade.
  • Per MYAS guidelines, player transfers are limited to ONE athlete per team in grades 3 and 4, and TWO athletes per team in grades 5-8
  • *Exception: MYAS will allow players who attend the International Spanish Language Academy elementary school to play for HRBBA without filling out a waiver, regardless of home address.
  • Per the Minnesota State High School LeagueAny player that has participated on a team that includes 10th graders, 11th graders or 12th graders is ineligible to participate in youth (up to 8th grade) events. Note: A 7th or 8th grader called up to the 9th grade team is eligible to come back and play with their appropriate grade division.

    • If your player intends to try out for a High School 10th grade, JV or Varsity team, please reach out to Andrew Wright prior to registering your player for HRBBA.

DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS

During the registration process, you will be asked to upload documentation to comply with the new MYAS guidelines. Players must submit this paperwork before being able to practice or compete.

  • All players must submit a copy of their birth certificate during the registration process. This includes returning players.

  • Players who attend a public, private, or charter school within the Hopkins School District boundary or the International Spanish Language Academy must provide a copy of a document that lists the player’s name and the school that they attend.
    • Examples: screenshot from Infinite Campus, copy of a report card, school-issued ID, etc.

  • Players who attend a private, charter, online, or home school that resides outside of the Hopkins School District boundary are required to provide proof of residency in the Hopkins School District boundary.
    • Any documentation from the school that shows the player’s name and address is sufficient. (HRBBA can no longer accept a driver’s license or utility bill to prove residency.)

PAYMENT INFORMATION

Registration Costs
3rd Grade = $450 (Players who make the Tournament Team will be invoiced an additional $150 after team selection.)
4th Grade = $600
5th through 8th Grade = $675

Please note: Registration fees maintain the quality of our program and include player uniforms and all tournament registration fees (including state). Examples of additional costs include the rental of gym space for practices, referees and EMTs for our tournament, and appropriate insurance coverage. The program continues to fund over half the average cost for each player to play.

Payment Plan
When you register, you may select to pay in full or you may select to utilize a payment plan. If you choose the payment plan option, 50% of your total bill will be due immediately and 50% will be due on November 4th, 2024. Players must be paid in full to compete in the first tournament.

Volunteer Deposit
Due to some changes in the Sports Engine payment system, we have to go back to taking a $200 check for a volunteer deposit at tryouts this year. Once volunteer hours are fulfilled, the check will be destroyed. For volunteer hours that are not completed, the remaining deposit checks will be cashed on March 1, 2025.

As a reminder, all families are required to work an average of 6-10 volunteer hours per player during our Hopkins Royal Rumble winter tournament scheduled for January 18-19, 2025.

Scholarships
Players who qualify for free- and reduced- school meals are eligible for a reduction in HRBBA registration costs. Although all students receive free school lunches this year, families still need to complete the application for Educational Benefits with their school to receive reduced rates for athletics and other activities.

If your player qualifies, please email HRBBA Registration Coordinator (Registration@hrbbabasketball.net). We will work with you to approve your request and give you a discount code to use when you register online.

Multi-Child Discount

Families that have 3 or more players signing up for HRBBA can contact Registration@hrbbabasketball.net to apply for a discount on the 3rd/4th/5th players signing up for that family.

NEW! 3rd Grade League

We’re thrilled to offer a great new way for 3rd graders who are more serious about the sport to ease into the pace of travel basketball. All registered players will go through tryouts, and HRBBA will field two types of teams at the 3rd grade level:

3rd Grade Tournament Team ($600)

  • HRBBA will field one competitive 3rd grade "Tournament Team" with between 8-10 players that will play a tournament-only schedule at the highest skill level (A/B/C) determined during the evaluation process.
  • Parents will be prompted to "opt in" during the registration process for their player to be considered for the Tournament Team.
  • Players who are not selected for the Tournament Team will be considered for one of the MYAS League teams.
  • Tournament Team players will receive a personalized jersey, shorts and shooting shirt to keep.

3rd Grade MYAS League Teams ($450)

  • HRBBA will field as many additional 3rd Grade MYAS League teams as possible with between 8-10 players each and skill levels evenly balanced between the teams.
  • Teams will participate in the new MYAS 3rd Grade League with two “double header” games on six Saturdays as listed on the Tournament Schedule page.
  • Teams will also play in up to two additional travel-style tournaments in the Metro area as listed on the Tournament Schedule page.
  • MYAS League players will receive a warm-up shooting shirt to keep, and for games will wear HRBBA jerseys that will be returned at the end of the season.
