HOPKINS CLASSIC TOURNAMENT RULES GRADES 5 – 9 We will play Minnesota State High School League Rules and further modified as stated below.
1. Lineups must be in the official scorebook five minutes prior to starting the game. Teams not on the floor within five minutes after scheduled starting time will forfeit.
2. All games will be seven minute stop time quarters. Breaks are one minute between quarters and five minutes between halves. The breaks will be shortened if we are running late.
3. Three time-outs per game, one minute each with no carryover to overtime. One time-out per overtime period.
4. Bonus free throws will be shot on the on the seventh team foul of each half, double bonus at ten fouls.
5. Three point shot will be allowed wherever the floor is so marked.
6. Overtime will be one, two-minute period, then sudden death. Jump balls start any overtime period.
7. Technical fouls will not be shot. Floor technicals will be one point awarded and the ball. Floor technicals count as personal and team fouls. Bench technicals will be two points awarded and the ball. Bench technicals do not count as team fouls.
8. Zone defenses are allowed for all grades.
9. Pressing is not allowed by teams with a lead of more than fifteen points. 10. A player is disqualified after his fifth foul unless the team would not be able to field five players. The last player to foul out is the player that will continue playing. If the player fouling has already committed five fouls, the team being fouled will receive an extra free throw, their regular free throws, and the ball out of bounds.
11. Running time will occur in the 4th quarter if one team is leading by twenty points or more. STOP TIME WILL RESUME IF LEAD DROPS TO 10 POINTS.
12. No protests will be considered. All decisions made by the officials on the floor are final. Respect between and by all players, coaches, officials & fans is requested. Referees have been instructed to be strict in calling technicals for unsportsmanlike conduct. Violators are subject to ejection for the duration of the tournament.
